Bruno Biais wins a European Research Council’s Advanced Grant

In early 2020, the European Research Council (ERC) granted €450 million for Europe’s long-term research, because "Europe’s future depends on science and research", reminded Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. HEC Paris Professor Bruno Biais was awarded for his research project in finance, entitled "Welfare, Incentives, Dynamics, and Equilibrium".

Bruno Biais, Professor of finance at HEC Paris, was selected to benefit from the ERC’s Advanced Grants. Learn about his research project entitled "Welfare, Incentives, Dynamics, and Equilibrium" on Knowledge@HEC.

The European Research Council’s Advanced Grants is part of the EU research and innovation program, Horizon 2020. The new grantees will carry out their projects at universities and research centres across 20 EU Member States and associated countries with Germany (35), UK (34) and France (21) hosting most grants.

ERC competitions are open to researchers of any nationality. This year, 1881 applicants submitted their proposals in all fields of research.

The 185 winning researchers will explore their most cutting-edge and exploratory ideas in all fields of research. The new research projects will strengthen Europe’s knowledge base, and also lead to the creation of 1,800 jobs for post-doctoral fellows, PhD students and other research staff.

"The crisis we face today reminds us how important it is to listen to scientific advice", reminded Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.

The President of the European Research Council (ERC), Professor Mauro Ferrari, also commented: "I wish them all the best in this endeavor and, at this time of crisis, let me pay tribute to the heroic and invaluable work of the scientific community as a whole.”
