A Shift from Robotics to Finance
Zixu JIN’s online Summer Program changed the course of his life in many ways. When he joined us on campus this September for a double degree in International Finance (MIF) and Data Science for Business (DSB), it was fascinating to learn more about his roots in mechanical engineering and how the Summer School contributed to his professional reorientation.
To those on the fence about HEC Summer School: it's more than just an academic endeavor. It's a gateway; one that can deepen your insights, foster enduring connections, and perhaps, like in my case, solidify the direction of your professional journey.
In academia, mechanical engineering and finance can seem like contrasting domains. My journey began firmly rooted in the former, with a vivid fascination for robotics. However, a twist of fate and a global pandemic led me to the virtual classrooms of HEC Paris' summer school, an experience that profoundly deepened my understanding of finance and decisively set the trajectory of my future career.
Discovering the Investment Banking and International Finance summer program, I was instantly drawn in. A pressing question loomed: how could my technical background intertwine with the multifaceted world of finance? As the e-lectures and digital workshops unfolded, I began to discern the intricate dance between technology and finance. The virtual modules illuminated how data analytics, algorithms, and robotics are becoming increasingly pivotal in the ever-evolving financial arena.
Meaningful connections can flourish even in a digital space.
The digital constraints of the pandemic, rather than being a hindrance, offered a unique lens into the finance world. Engaging discussions, spirited debates on global financial trends, and collaborative projects in this digital format not only provided knowledge but forged a deep, intuitive connection to finance. Among the myriad of connections I made during this course, one stands out – a chance virtual encounter with someone special, now my current girlfriend, underscoring that meaningful connections can flourish even in a digital space.
This immersive online experience was nothing short of transformative. It didn't just provide me with knowledge; it instilled in me a fervor for finance. Recognizing the profound implications of melding my technical prowess with financial insights, I decisively charted my path toward HEC's MIF and DSB dual-degree program and, more broadly, a future in finance.
To those on the fence about HEC summer school: it's more than just an academic endeavor. It's a gateway; one that can deepen your insights, foster enduring connections, and perhaps, like in my case, solidify the direction of your professional journey. The HEC Paris summer school, amidst its sessions and discussions, might very well be the compass you need for your future.
