Accounting and Management Control

Luc Paugam is Professor of Accounting and Management Control and holds the Forvis Mazars Chair of Purposeful Governance at HEC Paris. Luc is also a CFA charterholder. He bridges research and practice in accounting and ESG, helping businesses improve transparency and trust.

Luc studies corporate reporting and sustainability. He analyzes how firms report environmental, social and governance (ESG) data and how investors use it. His work suggests ways to make sustainability disclosures clearer and more reliable.

He also investigates corporate fraud and whistleblowing. By examining cases of accounting manipulation and activist disclosures, he helps executives and regulators spot misconduct sooner. He explores how auditors, analysts and rating agencies respond to irregularities, offering practical guidance on strengthening oversight.

His research is published in leading academic journals and broadcasted in media outlets such as The Conversation, Capital, and L'Opinion.

At HEC Paris, he teaches financial and non-financial reporting and sustainable finance in various programs.

Before HEC Paris, he was a corporate finance consultant. He has co-authored a global financial accounting textbook, published widely in leading academic journals, and business cases.

He also serves as an Associate Editor of the European Accounting Review and sits on several journal editorial boards.
